Having recently been once again declared the most overpaid actor in Hollywood for 2014, Adam Sandler in the meantime has been quietly assembling the parts for his newest project, which just happens to be something of a groundbreaking deal with online distributor giant Netflix. Despite probably not being the first person that would come to mind as a Hollywood game-changer, Sandler is doing just that with his four-picture deal with Netflix, and now the comedy mogul has the cast in place for his first film with the streaming service, ‘Ridiculous 6.’ As revealed today by The Wrap, Sandler’s western parody (sounding like something akin to fellow comedic juggernaut Seth McFarlane’s ‘A Million Ways to Die in the West’) has recruited a number of Happy Madison regulars, including Rob Schneider, Steve Buscemi, Terry Crews, Will Forte, Nick Swardson, Jon Lovitz, and Taylor Lautner, while also adding a number of surprising stars.
Oscar nominee Nick Nolte will be playing Sandler’s father in the film, while Luke Wilson, Steve Zahn, Danny Trejo, and Whitney Cummings also lend support. Probably the two most unexpected additions will be country superstar Blake Shelton as the legendary Wyatt Earp and the artist formerly known as Vanilla Ice, Rob Van Winkle, as great American author Mark Twain (yes, that is correct). The film reportedly tells the tale of a group of half-brothers (Sandler, Scheider, Crews, Wilson, Lautner, with one yet to be added) raised by an Indian tribe, who will undoubtedly embark on a bumbling quest to save the Old West, on the way meeting a number of ridiculous characters.
‘Ridiculous 6’ will be heading into production this year, and presumably hitting Netflix early in 2016. Stay tuned here for more.
